I have seen some out of this world crazy amazing natural beauty on this trip of a lifetime. Beyond words incredible landscapes and natural phenomenons, all mind glowingly good, however the Galápagos Islands was a whole new level of magic.
The Galápagos Islands are an archipelago of Islands off the coast of Ecuador, it is only in the last ten to fifteen years that tourism has been celebrated so it is still quite rustic, you won’t find glam boutiques or cute cafés there which, really, adds to the perfection of the place.
When planning and researching the South American leg of our great adventure and talking to people about their experiences, the Galapagos became my most looked forward to, can’t wait for place to visit. I heard all about the diverse wildlife and how uninhibited the animals were but it wasn’t till we stepped foot on our first island of Santa Cruz and saw sea lions lazing by the port that it all really sunk in. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined the natural wonderland we were about to experience.
Over the next two weeks (we doubled our time here after realising just how perfect it was) and after visiting three of the Islands, seeing sea lions and their babies swimming up to us, flamingos, giant marine iguanas, a pink lake, turtles the size of small cars, amazingly colourful fish and sharks everywhere we had ordered a lifetime subscription to National Geographic and had downloaded every single David Attenborough documentary ever made so we could find more of these natural theme parks around the world on our travels.
It was truly incredible, memories of the Galapagos will keep my daydreams enlightened for as long as I have my memory.
The details / /
Accommodation/ / you have two options, travelling by cruise boat or staying on the Islands, we did the latter and took the ferry to stay on other Islands. Luxury accommodation is far and few between on any of the Islands.
Don’t miss / / it!! Lifetime goal must be to visit the Galápagos Islands full stop. However, pack your sunscreen as it was ridiculously mind meltingly hot hot hot.
